An early Stanley wooden level with brass end plates and a vial set into the body. The brass plate is stamped STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO, NEW BRITAIN, CONN U.S.A, with the patent dates PAT 6-2-91 and 6-23-96. The seller describes it as an 1896 patent piece.

The wood shows the age and handling you would expect, with darkened grain, some surface marks and a few small cracks, and the brass plates have a soft patina. The vial appears intact, and the screws show rust but are still in place.

A good choice for a woodworking shelf, a tool display or a collector of early Stanley tools.
