This is a page spread from the Vancouver Daily Province of Wednesday, January 7, 1942, a 26-page edition from the 47th year of publication. The front page carries the headline CONSCRIPTION REFERENDUM HINTED, along with news of the Japanese advance in Malaya, the Hong Kong and Davao fighting, and the blackout rules being introduced on the coast.

The pages also show 1940s department store advertising, including The Bay suit sales, Hudson's Bay Company drugs and toiletries, and women's spring frocks. The paper has the soft yellowed tone, folds and edge wear expected of a newspaper of this age.

A great piece for WWII collectors, Canadian history buffs, or anyone decorating with vintage ephemera. Sold as found, with handling wear consistent with its age.
