This vintage stoneware bean pot is glazed in a rich brown with a glossy finish and has two loop handles and a fitted lid with a knob. The base is stamped with the oval Medalta Potteries Ltd. Medicine Hat, Alberta mark, a sign of Alberta's well-known stoneware maker.

Pots like this were used for slow-baked beans and stews in farm and family kitchens across Canada. Wear is in keeping with age: small chips show on the rim and the glaze has some light speckling and wear, which adds to its character.
